Quote for today on self-reliance and preparedness

If there is no wind, row.
–Latin proverb

Here's a proverb that summarizes a healthy life philosophy of self-reliance and preparedness in just six words.

As we cruise along in life, it's fine to let the wind fill our sails, tacking as appropriate.

But, when we're becalmed because the wind has died down, we need to be able to continue on in another way. That's when it's time to break out the oars and row ourselves forward.

Who knows? The wind may pick up again in a while, or we may have to keep rowing.

Either way, we're still making progress toward our goals.
